Background of Women Aviators in Africa
Women Aviators in Africa (“WAFRIC”) was established in 2008 and is registered as a non-profit organisation. The main purpose of the organisation is to contribute to the transformation of Aviation industry in Africa, through the empowerment of women. Our aim is to have more women pilots, engineers, technicians, instructors, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, meteorologists, aviation writers, aviation lawyers, spotters, and enthusiasts, or women starting to consider those careers.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to become aviation organisation in Africa, supporting women within the industry and also empowering the youth of Africa. Although membership is voluntary, we envisage having members who are passionate about Aviation and would be willing to contribute to the improvement of the industry. Members will be expected to interact with and support each other, working together to achieve the objectives of the organisation
Objectives
· To contribute to transformation within Aviation sector in Africa, by increasing the number of women aviators
· To mentor, support, empower, and sponsor potential aviators from both rural and urban areas
· To create a networking platform, bringing together men, women and the youth in different field of the aviation industry in Africa
· To develop the skills knowledge and advance the training of Women aviators in Africa
· To work and align closely with other established organisations such as women in aviation-international, Ninety-nines and Women in Corporate aviation.
· To establish a ‘wall of fame’ to honour women pioneers in Africa
